I just spent 1 week in Tarifa, Spain shooting for the Liquid Force 2016 Kites.
This was a totally new experience for me and I’m very grateful to be able to take part in it. This week was mostly focused on photos of all the new gear. I learned a lot about how to shoot great photos and what kind of maneuvers that look good on camera. It was great fun working together with the LF team.
The LF riders who joined this shoot were Finn Behrens, Sebastian Lang, Jan Schiegnitz, Oliver Umpierre and Kelly Schouten.Together with the boss, Michael and our photographer we searched for the ultimate spot for shooting!
We had wind every day, so we got many chances to take some good shots. We had Levante wind most of the days, with Poniente wind only one day. The Levante wind goes up to 40+ knots and is very gusty and challenging to ride in. You need a small kite, such as a 5m or 6m to be able to ride and have fun in this wind. The Poniente wind is lighter and more stable. Even though we had Levante winds most days, we still managed to find some secret, uncrowded spots where the wind was not that strong.
We spent a fair bit of time driving around searching for the perfect places to shoot both from the photographer’s and riders’ perspective. We got to ride at a lot of different spots and it was great fun to see all that Tarifa has to offer.
I can understand why so many people love this place. There is also a lot going on besides kiteboarding and you have bigger towns like Marbella and Malaga pretty close by if you want some city life. I was amazed by how green and beautiful the little kiter town was, surrounded by beautiful mountains and with a view over to Africa on the horizon.
I really liked the place and hope to be back some day soon again. Most of all, I’m very excited to see the results of the shoot. The last pic illustrates just how excited we are about that ! 😉
